V from Delhi writes about a missed opportunity during his flight journey back home.
I was returning home (Delhi) on a early morning flight. I was prepared for the worst, considering there were a lot of (snoring) business travelers that time. My seat number was 22F & as I head towards cabin & pass seat 15,16,17 … what my eyes could only see was a pretty girl sitting on the aisle 2 or 3 rows ahead. Though I couldn’t stop looking, I walked ahead pretending to not see. When I realized that I had moved much ahead of my designated seat, I walked back only to find my seat right next to that very pretty girl! I double checked & it was my lucky day, Yes!
I requested her to allow me to take my window seat & we both settled down. Till the take-off, the only thing on my mind was how to approach her to talk. Should I ask her name? Or maybe I should introduce myself. She din’t seem like a frequent flyer & I din’t expect her to be comfortable talking to a stranger.
I decided to wait for the fight time. She was listening to songs, while I got busy reading a magazine. An hour passed by & by the looks of it, she was bored. I thought it was the perfect time to start a conversation & I looked at her hoping she would look at me as well. But no luck!
I finally put the magazine in front & asked her if she would like to read the magazine? With a cute smile, she said “Umm..Yeah sure”. I remember that voice even now. I couldn’t even hold it together to ask her name.
With only half an hour before we landed in Delhi, I I had lost of my chance. The last I saw her was at the baggage counter. Had I talked to her, we could have been in touch. I wish I could go back in time, on the flight & make it all right from the start!
I guess this was supposed to be a sweet memory to remember. This gave me the confidence to make conversations in future, in flight or elsewhere. If not a long conversation, at least a name!
