Day 1: Reach Ahmedabad. Little Rann of Kutch. Wild Ass Sanctuary

Drive: 4-5 hrs

Jeep Safari

Reach Ahmedabad. After breakfast, proceed to the Little Rann of Kutch, experiencing a gradual change in the landscape and wildlife. LRK is known for its variety of winged friends and wild ass. Get on to a jeep safari across the cracked brown earth of the Little Rann. Overnight at Little Rann of Kutch.

Dress up in layers. Expect it to be cold during the safaris and in the White Rann, but also sharp sun as this is a desert.

Day 2: Dholavira. Sunset at the Rann of Kutch Lake. Cultural Program.

We enter Kutch today. Kutch is a unique blend of unimaginable landscapes, harsh life, kind people, magnificent architecture and colourful art. Reach Dholavira today. Get your first glimpse of the White Rann today. Watch the sunset at the Rann of Kutch lake. Enjoy a cultural performance in the evening. Overnight at Dholavira.

The drive to Dholavira will be long. We will take breaks, but carry some snacks as you will have to sit and travel in a tempo traveller for some time.

Day 3: Sunrise at White Rann. Harappan Civilization excavation site.

Walk: 1-2 hrs

Get up early in the morning for a sunrise drive to the White Rann. After breakfast, visit the pre-Harappan excavation sites of Dholavira today, recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An important site belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization, today will be a day spent exploring history and ancient splendours. Closer to sunset, proceed to the White Rann to watch the moonrise. Walk on the salt flats and enjoy the beauty. Overnight at Dholavira.

We have planned some early mornings where breakfast will be packed. This is because Kutch is pleasant in the mornings and evenings, and daytime sun is too sharp to enjoy outdoors.

Recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dholavira is one of the five largest Harappan sites and the most prominent archaeological sites in India belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization. It is also considered as having been the grandest of cities of its time.

FUN FACT!

Did you know? The place is known as Dholovira to the world, but locals call it Kotada Timba, meaning ‘large fort’, referring to how the site appears as a raised, fort-like mound.

Day 4: Drive through White Rann. Bird Safari at Chhari Dhand.

Drive: 5-7 hrs

Check out and take the cross country road from Dholavira to Khavda. The road passes through the Salt Desert. Reach the Centre for Desert and Ocean which works on conservation in the area. Go for an evening bird safari in Chhari Dhand. The Chari-Dhand wetland conservation reserve is located on the edge of arid Banni grasslands and the marshy salt flats. It is currently legally protected under the status as a Protected or Reserve Forest in India. Overnight at a local homestay in Virani Moti.

While washrooms are no problem, there will be minimal options when driving across the vast desert of Kutch.

Day 5: Tal-Lyari riverbed rock formation. Nirona. Devpur.

Heritage stay

After breakfast, check out and visit the Tal-Lyari Riverbed rock formations. The prehistoric rock formations along the Lyari riverbed are breathtaking in their beauty and grandeur. Proceed to Nirona – one of the most famous artisan villages of Kutch, to get live demonstrations of Rogan practised by just this village in the entire world. Reach your stay in Devpur by lunch time and settle into the 110 year old heritage haveli. Evening at leisure – walk around the village and the mango and cheeku orchard. Overnight at Devpur.

Day 6: Palaces. Ajrakhpur. Bhuj.

After breakfast, check out to explore Bhuj. Visit the palaces. Explore Ajrakhpur, a village with multiple national awardees preserving the block print art. Wander through the Bhuj market for some shopping time. Overnight at Bhuj.

Some monuments decide to close at the last moment due to maintenance issues. We have planned the Kutch women group trip so as to avoid their official closing days. In most cases, we will be able to re-do them on some other day, in the eventuality of maintenance closure.

FUN FACT!

Did you know? The word Ajrakh is said to be derived from the Arabic word ‘Azrak’ which literally means blue (or indigo), which explains why it’s a principal colour in the block printing style.

Day 7: Earthquake Museum. Ahmedabad.

Drive: 6-8 hrs

After breakfast, check out and visit the Smriti Van and Earthquake Museum. Depart for Ahmedabad and arrive by late evening. Overnight at Ahmedabad.

It will be a fairly long drive from Bhuj to Ahmedabad. We will pace it. Keep some eatables for the road with you.

Day 8: Fly out.

Return flights

Post breakfast, proceed to the airport for your respective flights. Our Kutch all women group trip ends bringing in the new year with new memories.

You can book your return flights anytime. Hotel check-out is at 10 AM.

15% of the trip cost if cancelled 90 days or more in advance

25% of the trip cost if cancelled 89 – 60 days in advance.

50% of the trip cost if it is cancelled 59 to 16 days in advance.

Last 15 days – no show – the entire amount will be forfeited.

If you use our services to book flights, cancellation charges will apply.

What type of accommodation will be provided?

We select accommodation based on their uniqueness/character, location, cleanliness and comfort, hospitality, food quality, and more. What type of food will be available in Kutch?

We have tried and planned your meals for the Kutch group tour at great restaurants/homestays/villages etc. But there will be instances where we will need to have lunch on the way from one city to another. The local Kutchi and Gujarati food will be the focus.

Are we visiting the Rann Utsav location in the Kutch all-women group tour?

Note on Rann Utsav – We are avoiding Dhordo – the main site for Rann Utsav – in the itinerary, because it is overly commercialised and crowded. The Great Rann of Kutch has many accesses and we will access the Salt Desert from Dholavira and during our ride from Dholavira to Khavda, literally through the White Desert. We will experience the cuisine, folk performance, handicrafts of Kutch in their natural setting as opposed to the Tent City, which is the official accommodation of Rann Utsav. If there are Rann Utsav fair grounds around Dholavira, we will visit those.

Is the trip suitable for solo female travellers?

Yes, absolutely. Most travellers joining our women group tours India, come as solo travellers and leave making new friends. We keep the trips a mix of travel, leisure, sightseeing, experiences, culture and moderately paced for women travellers. If you want to travel with women solo travel groups which gives you your own space while being around like-minded people, join our trips. If you have more questions, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to answer them.

What are the company policies on smoking?

NOTE ABOUT SMOKING: Everyone joining is an adult and we realise that we cannot dictate the behaviour on how you should enjoy the trip. All we ask is to respect your roommate’s comfort and smoke outside the room, even if the rooms have ashtray.

Any other things to know about the Kutch trip?

We will be visiting multiple places and having a wide range of experiences. It’s therefore requested that you kindly cooperate with your trip lead and follow the guidelines given by her so that we can execute the plan as smoothly as possible. Also The trip is NON-ALCOHOLIC as Gujarat is a dry state.
