Temples in India were not just built for seeking the divine. They were the meeting points for people, a platform to drive a cause and a centre point in the lives of ancient India. Each temple has a story – sometime incredulous, sometimes awe-inspiring. South of India has some of the most beautifully carved temples with a dizzying following. The temples are elaborate in their architecture and plan and speak not just of the devotion but also of the grandeur of the era they were built in. We take you to the beautiful Shore Temple of Mahabalipuram to the much revered Meenakshi Temple of Madurai. The lesser known towns of Trichendur and Tanjore are as much a part of it as the very famous Maitri Mandir or Pondicherry. The beautiful Western ghats of Sringeri and Dharamsthala invite you and so does the ruins of Hampi – the erstwhile seat of the the Vijaynagar Empire.
