Blessed with nature’s bounty, Nagaland is home to 16 major tribes and various sub-tribes. It is a land of folklore, dance and fierce historical battles, where the tribes still prefer living naturally. Explore Nagaland with us, covering some known and some unknown terrains; soaking in nature, culture, food and stories.

Arrive in Dimapur and after lunch, proceed to Kohima. Reach your stay and relax. Overnight at Kohima.

Day 2 - 07 Apr 2024

Drive up to Dzuleke.  This eco-tourism village gets its name from the river Dzuleke that, during its course, goes underground once it reaches the village. It is a unique place, not only for its flora and fauna but also because this hunting village has banned hunting to protect wildlife. Spend some time in this beautiful valley and go for a small hike. Drive back to the tourist village of Khonoma. Inhabited by the Angami tribes, Khonoma has made some giant strides in ecological conservation and eco tourism. Go for a village walk and return to Kohima. Overnight at Kohima.

Day 3 - 08 Apr 2024

Explore Kohima and understand the history of Kohima and its ferocious Naga tribes. The British incursions into the Naga territory, beginning in the 1840s, met with stiff resistance from the independence-loving Nagas, who had never been conquered by any empire before. It took the British 4 decades to conquer just a part of it. Learn about the Battle of Kohima, the turning point of the Burma Campaign. Wonder why our history books didn’t mention it! Visit the War Memorial, Museum and Church to understand it all. Also visit the local market. Try or witness the local delicacies and unique offerings that this market has to offer. Overnight at Kohima.

Day 4 - 09 Apr 2024

After breakfast, drive to Phüsachodü, an interior village in Phek district of Nagaland inhabited by the Chakesang tribe. Experience the rich culture, traditions, customs and life in a Naga village, while staying in the comfort of a modern bungalow. Have a local feast and enjoy a cultural program. Overnight at Phüsachodü.

Day 5 - 10 Apr 2024

Today, explore another lovely village of the region. Zhavame is famous for its paddy fields and fertile lands. Walk around and explore this village and fields, dotted with traditionally made houses. Enjoy a local lunch. If weather permits, we will drive to Kapamodzü range for a beautiful view of the valley. Early evening, start the drive towards Dimapur. This would be a long journey. Reach Dimapur by dinner and relax at a beautiful homestay – authentically Naga and surrounded by paddy fields. Overnight at Dimapur.

Dzükou Valley Trek Extension

Dzükou Valley Trek is one of the most famous trekking routes in Nagaland. Dzükou Valley, located at an altitude of approximately 2,450 meters above sea level, is a stunning grassland surrounded by hill tops. The lush green valley, broken by myriad streams, is a biodiversity heaven. Millions of years old and completely uninhabited, this is as close to utopia you can get.

The extension provides you with an extra night stay in Kohima and an overnight camping experience in the Dzükou valley. Some facts are below

  • Fitness required – The trek is classified as easy to moderate and you do not need to be extremely fit or an ardent trekker to undertake this.
  • Distance and time taken – approximately 8 km one way. Takes about 6-7 hours one way.
  • Facilities – There will be a guide and a porter with the group. Lunch will be packed. Dinner and breakfast (next day) will be on campsite. You will be staying pitched camping tents. Loos will be makeshift as there is no running water and this is a plastic free eco zone.

Call us for more details, if you want this as a possible extension.

NOTE ABOUT SMOKING & ALCOHOL:

Everyone joining is an adult and we realise that we cannot dictate the behaviour on how you should enjoy the trip. All we ask is to drink responsibly. Hangover delays are going to cost a lot, and will not be tolerated at all. So please do not test your limits and enjoy in moderation. Also, do respect your roommate’s comfort levels with the alcohol smell and avoid drinking in the room if she is not comfortable.
If you smoke, please do so outside the room, even if the rooms have ashtray.

About your stay:

Kohima – well reviewed, conveniently located, 3-star hotel

Phüsachodü – A private bungalow with modern amenities, booked exclusively for the group. Each room will have attached bathrooms.

Dimapur – Authentic Naga homestay, much celebrated and reviewed, surrounded by paddy fields

Food!

You will get options for Continental, Chinese and North Indian food in Kohima and there will be ample opportunity to try the local Naga fare.
Please note that Naga cuisine is predominantly non-vegetarian. So while we will ensure that vegetarian food is available, the variety and options will be limited for vegetarians.

Note > Prepare > Accept > Embrace:

  • Please read the itinerary thoroughly. Consider asking questions if needed.
  • Phüsachodü and Zhavame are interior villages in Nagaland. Roads will not be very smooth and travel time may be longer than what maps show you.
  • This is East, so the sun rises early and sets early. We will start our day early to finish all that we planned.
  • For additional extension for Dzükou Valley trek, please reach out to us separately.
